Question Answer
What is an integrated digital television (iDTV)?

This is a television with a built-in digital tuner (iDTV) for receiving and displaying digital television transmissions. A set with iDTV generally incorporates a high quality widescreen display and a high-level audio capability with appropriate audio/video connectors. It does not require a digital television set top box, although connection of an additional set top box could provide recording or other functionality.

For New Zealand this is an MPEG 4 compatible turner with MHEG 5 software meaning that iDTV's from elsewhere in the world may not be compatible.

The branding of Freeview installed gives an assurance that the Television is compatable when it is attached at point of sale in New Zealand however this should not be confused with Freeview Australia or in the UK where iDTV's may still use the MPEG 2 format.

Some models of televisions will have both a terrestrial and a satellite tuner built in which will allow those in rural area to tune in without needing a separate set-top box.
We recomment that if you are purchasing a new Television for rural use and you are not using Sky, that you investigate this option through the retailer. You will need a satellite dish however for this to work.
