There are many different types of set top boxes. A satellite set top box will range between $90 for a basic Freeview decoder to $300 for an approved Freeview Satellite decoder. Terrestrial (local) digital tv decoders will range between $80 to $400 for Freeview approved decoders although unapproved Terrestrial decoders may be less they tend to be similar pricing.
Very sophisticated models (which may include recording capability, dual tuners etc) can cost up to $1000. The type of set top box you purchase will depend on your individual needs.

If you decide to watch just the free-to-air channels through a Sky digital box, there will be monthly charges but may not be any up front cost however not all of the Freeview channels may be available or they will be located at number positions different to the advertised Freeview number locations.
