In short anyone in New Zealand can receive
a free to air digital tv signal however only about 75% of the
population can currently get a terresterial landbased or local
digital tv signal that is used by "Freeview built in televisions" or DVD hard drive decoders (including My Freeview decoders)
To check whether you can get the terrestrial
or only the satelite signal you can use either the maps linked
to the hots spots on this page or go to the Freeview web site coverage map and search for your address.
Local digital reception quality can be affected by trees, geography, buildings and other obstructions near your residence when coverage is by the terrestrial signal however while these generally do not affect a satellite signal, it is possible that with smaller or older satellite dishes you may get rain or snow fade during heavy rain or snow .
Note: Digital TV via the Freeview Satellite transmission is available across all of New Zealand. As this is a narrow band transmission it is unlikely that this could be picked up in other countries outside of New Zealand
